Lead Engineer Power Electronics | PV & ESS

Location: Amsterdam, NL | Team: Engineering | Travel: ~20–30%

As the share of converter-based generation grows in modern power grids, our focus is on pioneering innovations in grid-forming inverters and synthetic inertia to ensure grid stability. We are seeking a highly skilled Power Electronics Engineer to lead the development of advanced inverter systems and power conversion solutions that seamlessly integrate our battery technologies into grid infrastructure.

⚡ What You’ll Do

  • Design and develop advanced power electronic systems (inverters, DC/DC converters) and control algorithms for utility-scale energy storage applications.

  • Simulate, model, and analyze power converter behavior under various grid and operating conditions using tools like MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, PSCAD, or PSSE.

  • Implement and validate control strategies via hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and software-in-the-loop (SIL) testing environments.

  • Define and ensure compliance with grid interconnection standards, regulatory requirements, and safety guidelines.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with electrical, hardware, and software teams, as well as with external partners and contract manufacturers.

  • Stay at the forefront of power electronics innovations to address the technical challenges of renewable integration and grid stability.

  • Document specifications, control logic, test protocols, and integration guides to support system deployment and future upgrades.

✅ Must-Have Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Power Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, or related field.

  • 7+ years of experience in power electronics system development and control software.

  • Deep understanding of power conversion topologies, components, and system-level architecture.

  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++ and model-based design workflows.

  • Experience with embedded controllers, DSPs, and real-time systems for power electronics.

  • Strong capability in HIL/SIL testing and control system validation.

  • Effective communication and collaboration skills within multidisciplinary, cross-functional teams.

  • Passion for renewable energy and its impact on sustainability and climate change.

  • Willingness and ability to travel 20–30% of the time.

🌟 Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in renewable energy applications, especially solar power systems.

  • Familiarity with battery systems, Battery Management Systems (BMS), and their integration with inverter controls.

  • Understanding of grid-forming inverters and synthetic inertia control.

  • Knowledge of utility interconnection standards and regional grid codes applicable to power converters.
